New Production Space for our Plastics Processing

12.06.2023

Werner Schmid is once again making a major investment in its physical infrastructure. Back in 2018, the company had already acquired the neighboring property, which covers a total area of 10,000 m² and includes four warehouses. A connecting structure has since been completed, linking the new property to the existing production facilities. This has made the new warehouses accessible and allowed them to be used initially as storage space.

Now Werner Schmid is taking it a step further and investing in the complete renovation of two of the four production halls. Additional firewalls will enhance fire safety at the site, an extensive roof renovation will improve the buildings’ energy efficiency, and a new floor slab will provide the necessary stability for our production machinery. In addition, upgrades to the electrical systems, ventilation, and machine cooling will be carried out to provide the necessary infrastructure for our complex production processes. This is, therefore, a complex construction project that deeply affects all components of the halls being renovated. These investments are intended to upgrade the two hall areas — which together account for about two-thirds of the total site — to serve as the future location for our plastics processing. Continuous expansion of our machinery fleet makes it necessary to develop new production space. In the last two years alone, we have purchased four injection molding machines to expand our plastics manufacturing; two more have already been ordered and are scheduled for delivery later this year. Long-term, sustainable site planning is therefore crucial. This construction project will achieve that goal: Once the renovation work is complete, the hall space available for our plastics manufacturing will double. Construction work began in the fall of 2022. It is expected to continue throughout 2023. The newly created production space is therefore expected to be ready for use in the spring of 2024.
