Werner Schmid Expands Tool Maintenance Services
24.02.2026For 70 years now, Werner Schmid has relied on its in-house toolmaking department – not only to manufacture forming tools and precision molds that meet specific requirements, but also to provide ongoing maintenance and rapid repairs in the event of wear and damage. This strategy is no longer the norm today: Many manufacturing companies no longer maintain their own toolmaking departments but instead rely on purchasing these important production resources from outside suppliers. This highlights a service that Werner Schmid has been expanding significantly in recent years: comprehensive services for the maintenance, upkeep, modification, and repair of third-party tools.
Our customers benefit not only from our expertise in the design and manufacture of tools and molds, but also from our decades of experience in the maintenance and repair of stamping and forming tools as well as injection molds used in our own production facilities. Our experienced teams in design and toolmaking know how important quick response times and flexibility are when tool damage occurs during ongoing operations. We can even repair old stamping and forming tools as well as plastic injection molds for which no 3D data is available. Using our 3D measuring machines, we can fully measure individual parts that need to be replaced, thereby generating precise and usable data for remanufacturing. Equally important, however, are regular and thorough maintenance to ensure a long service life, as well as the reconditioning of worn tools and molds to increase potential output. Thanks to our in-house design department, we are also able to modify existing tools — for example, to accommodate changes to the component being manufactured.
Our toolmaking portfolio is rounded out by our ability to handle the finishing of tools from both domestic and international sources. This can be useful, for example, when only one final grinding pass is required and the time or cost of transportation makes processing by the original toolmaker uneconomical, or when the injection molding plant does not have its own on-site toolmaking facility.
