Werner Schmid GmbH Receives Recognition for Health Management

29.01.2019

In January 2019, Werner Schmid GmbH’s health management program was awarded the IHK “Healthy Work in FD” rating in gold. The rating is based on the scientifically established model of salutogenesis—that is, the model of the “origin of health” (Latin: salus = health, well-being; genesis = origin).

What matters here is not whether a person is healthy or sick, but whether they have resources at their disposal that can positively influence their health. Personal responsibility also plays a decisive role in this process. Health arises from the interplay of body, mind, and spirit. Accordingly, the rating focuses not only on measures that have a physical impact but also places great emphasis on the company’s value system and the concept of creating meaning.
Accordingly, the rating system evaluates all of a company’s activities that have a positive impact on employees’ health at the physical, psychosocial, and ecological levels. These activities are categorized into six areas: physical-medical, mental-intellectual, emotional-psychological, social-communicative, cultural-ecological, and purposeful-value-conscious.
The rating is awarded at four levels, each of which requires a defined number of activities in the various areas. Werner Schmid GmbH received the Gold rating, the highest of the four levels. To qualify, the company must demonstrate at least 24 substantial activities across all six areas, with at least one in each area. Among the programs and initiatives at Werner Schmid are, for example, a subsidized bicycle leasing program, participation in a company run, and the annual hosting of health days (physical-medical), as well as anniversary celebrations for long-term service (psychological-emotional), support for departmental retreats (social and communicative), active commitment to environmental protection (cultural and ecological), and active support for the nonprofit organization Perspektiva GmbH, which works on behalf of young people with disabilities (meaningful and value-oriented).
